What Are CPTSD Symptoms of Complex PTSD?

Common symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, also know as Complex PTSD or CPTSD include:

PTSD Symptoms

The CPTSD label includes the normal symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Difficulty controlling emotions

The strong emotions don't reflect what you'd expect an individual to experience given their current environment. Technically known as "severe and pervasive problems in affect regulation".

Feeling defeated, worthless, shame and guilt

Ongoing feelings of worthlessness or feeling defeated by life, along with strong feelings of shame or guilt associated to the traumatic event.

Considerable Relationship difficulties

On-going and exceptional difficulties sustaining relationships and difficulties feeling close to other people.

It is important to consider that CPTSD is a label grouping a set of psychological symptoms, so it is not something that you can "have". There are symptoms that can be changed.

Complex PTSD (CPTSD) is subset of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

CPTSD is a serious medical condition and someone suffering from CPTSD symptoms should speak with their GP.

Complex PTSD should be diagnosed and treated by a qualified professional.
