Can TFT therapy help anxiety symptoms?
In 2012, Audun Irgens conducted formal research into
the use of Thought Field Therapy (TFT) as a treatment for anxiety symptoms.
TFT was originally developed by Roger Callahan in the 1980s.
It aims to influence the body's bioenergy field by tapping on specific points
along energy meridians, to relieve anxiety and other symptoms.
In the research, 45 patients were seeking help for anxiety.
23 of those patients were given TFT. The other 22 remained on a wait-list.
The patients were reassessed after 2 weeks, 3 months and 12 months.
The study found that the TFT group had a significantly better outcome on two measures of anxiety
and one measure of function.
Follow-up data for all patients taken together showed a significant decrease
in all symptoms at all of the three post-therapy assessments periods.
The results suggest that TFT may have an enduring anxiety-reducing effect.
TFT is not deemed to be evidence based by the NHS or NICE standards.
