2022 Study - Goodoory

A 2022 study by Goodoory and team, suggests that the current cost of IBS to the NHS could be around £2 billion every year.

The study was funded by Tillotts Pharma UK Ltd, although the report states that the funder had no input into the concept, design, analysis or reporting of the study.

It was lead by researchers from the University of Leeds and the County Durham and Darlinton NHS Foundation Trust.

They suggest direct health care costs of IBS of more than £1.2 billion, if the Rome IV assessment criteria is used.

That increases to £2 billion, if the Rome III assessment criteria is used.
