Hypnotherapy for Tics and Tourettes in Surrey and Online

Living with physical tics, verbal tics or Tourette’s can be exhausting.

You may notice tics getting stronger during times of stress, tiredness or worry, and settling when things are calmer.

At FreeYourMind.UK, I offer professional clinical hypnotherapy, in Surrey and online, to help you reduce stress and anxiety, develop calmer responses to triggers, and build practical tools for managing life with tics or Tourette’s.

Hypnotherapy is not a medically recognised cure for tics or Tourette’s, and it does not replace medical care. The formal research simply hasn't happened.

Instead, hypnotherapy can be a complementary approach that focuses on the mind–body connection, emotional wellbeing, and your experience of living with the condition.

Understanding tics and Tourette’s

Tics are sudden, repetitive movements or sounds that can feel irresistible. They may be simple (such as blinking, throat clearing or facial movements) or more complex sequences of movements or vocalisations.

Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological condition in which people experience multiple motor tics and at least one vocal tic over time. For many people, tics:

Medical and behavioural support remain the primary evidence-based treatments for tics and Tourette’s. Hypnotherapy can sit alongside these to support emotional regulation and relaxation.

How hypnotherapy may help with tics and Tourette’s

Hypnotherapy uses natural states of focused attention and deep relaxation to help you work with the subconscious patterns that influence thoughts, feelings and physical responses.

In the context of tics and Tourette’s, hypnotherapy may help you to:

Some people notice that when their overall stress levels and emotional load are lower, their tics feel less overwhelming and easier to live with. Others find that even if tics don’t change dramatically, they feel more confident, calmer and better able to cope.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are calm, confidential and tailored to you (or your child). We will always go at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

1. Understanding your experience

2. Relaxation and hypnotic work

3. Practical tools and self-hypnosis

You remain fully in control throughout. You can talk, move and stop at any time.

Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process – we work together towards your goals.

Working alongside your medical team

Tourette’s and tic disorders are complex neurological conditions. It is important that you continue to follow advice from your GP, neurologist, paediatrician or specialist service.

Hypnotherapy with FreeYourMind.UK is designed to be complementary to, not a replacement for:

Where appropriate, and with your consent, I am happy to work alongside other professionals involved in your care.

Unfortunately, medical research into the use of advanced psychological tools, such as hypnotherapy, to help with tics and Tourettes is extremely limited. It just hasn't really happened yet.

From the limited research that has happened:

This suggests that hypnotherapy could help, but without further research it will not be accepted as a formal medical treatment.

My approach is calm, compassionate and practical. You don’t have to relive difficult events in detail. Instead, we focus on what is happening now, and how your mind and body can learn to respond differently.

Where are sessions held?

I offer hypnotherapy for tics and Tourette’s from my therapy rooms in Surrey, as well as online via secure video.

Online hypnotherapy can be particularly helpful if travel is difficult, if tics are very visible and you prefer the comfort of home, or if you are seeking specialist support from outside the local area.

Fees and number of sessions

Every person is different, and so is every course of therapy. Some people choose a short, focused block of sessions; others prefer a more gradual approach over a longer period.

You’ll find up-to-date information about fees and availability below.

If you have any questions about cost, or you’d like to discuss what might be realistic for you, please just ask.
