What is Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)?

FND, which was previously called conversion disorder, is a complex neurological condition, where the brain has difficulty with its signals.

It is thought to affect less than 0.01% of people each year.

Medical MRI and CAT scans are unlikely to detect physical damage, making FND more of a "software" problem than a "hardware" problem.

Common symptoms of FND include:

Tremors, jerking or muscle spasms
Limb weakness or paralysis
Difficulty walking
Functional seizures, blackouts or Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures" (PNES)
Numbness or altered sensation
Speech, swallowing or visual disturbances
Dizziness, fatigue, pain and “brain fog”

FND may also happen alongside other conditions, such as IBS, fibromyalgia, ESD, ADHD, ASD, etc.
