What is Social Prescribing?

Social Prescribing

Social Prescribing allows GPs, nurses and other health and care professionals to refer people with mental health issues to a range of local, non-clinical services.

It helps people to find and participate in personally fulfilling activities, which can lead to improved mental wellbeing and mental health.

Social prescribing often helps people suffering from anxiety, depression, stress

Link workers or navigators often help people to find the right activities for them.

The local community activities may include volunteering, arts, gardening, befriending, cookery, nutrition advice and sports.

Rather than making people talk about their concerns, it helps them participate in enjoyable things to do, which helps them to feel happy.

Happy people, by definition, are less unhappy.

Social prescribing is also referred to as community referral
