What is Local Authority Personal Health Budget?

The Local Authority Personal Health Budget

The Local Authority Personal Health Budget is government funding to help support individuals' health and wellbeing needs.

It allows the individual to choose which activities the individual believes will help, as an alternative to standard NHS treatment.

For NHS patients, the standard treatment typically includes a limited number of CBT (talk therapy) or EMDR (eye-movement) sessions and medication, but may also include special support from NHS psychologists or psychiatrists.

The funding comes from both the local authority and the NHS.

People have a right to a personal health budget if they have been detained under certain sections of the Mental Health Act and are eligible for section 117 after-care.

Also, if they are eligible for "NHS continuing healthcare", if they have needs arising from disability, accident or illness that can't be met by existing universal or specialist services alone.
